Theory

The legionella training course starts with a brief overview of common waterborne pathogens found in hot and cold water systems including legionella and pseudomonas, the conditions that allow these bugs to grow and the consequences of getting things wrong.

It also outlines current legislation, codes of practice and guidance including COSHH, HSE's ACOP L8, HSG274 and HTM 04-01 and what's required at a practical level to comply with the law.

It also reviews the impact of poor maintenance and system design on risk, and discusses the alternative methods of control including temperature, filtration, ultra-violet and chemical disinfection.
