New City & Guilds accredited practical compliance focused legionella training course launched – save money, take better control and ensure best practice. Learn where, when and how to take accurate hot and cold water temperatures; flush little used outlets, clean and disinfect shower heads, maintain TMVs, inspect water tanks and calorifiers, and carry-out other important legionella and ACOP L8 compliance tasks. Legionella Control International has developed a new compliance task based Legionella training course that shows people how to perform a number of practical, but important routine Legionella and water safety monitoring and maintenance tasks on hot and cold water systems… all in accordance with COSHH, the Health & Safety Executives ACOP L8, HSG274 and the Department of Health’s HTM 04-01. The knowledge and skills gained on this course could allow you to save money by taking these tasks in-house to meet your routine compliance monitoring and maintenance obligations using existing staff, or reinforce the correct procedures with those already tasked to do these jobs to ensure they are completed properly. This straight-forward course includes a series of practical demonstrations and is ideal for facilities management technicians, caretakers, housekeepers, building managers, plumbers, maintenance and engineering contractors, and those with responsibility for the routine monitoring, inspection and maintenance of hot and cold water systems (including those in healthcare, hospitals and care homes). The legionella training course starts with a brief overview of common waterborne pathogens found in hot and cold water systems including legionella and pseudomonas, the conditions that allow these bugs to grow and the consequences of getting things wrong. It also outlines current legislation, codes of practice and guidance including COSHH, HSE’s ACOP L8, HSG274 and HTM 04-01 and what’s required at a practical level to comply with the law. It also reviews the impact of poor maintenance and system design on risk, and discusses the alternative methods of control including temperature, filtration, ultra-violet and chemical disinfection. There are a number of practical modules available that include: Learn where, when and how to accurately take and record hot and cold water temperatures (including healthcare environments). Learn about little used outlets and why they are problematic. Learn how frequently they should be reviewed and how to flush an outlet safely. Learn when and how to visually inspect cold water storage tanks, calorifiers and other important items of plant and equipment, what to look for and what steps to take to resolve common problems. Learn when and how to inspect, clean, disinfect and descale shower heads safely. Learn when and how to inspect, clean and disinfect spray taps safely. Learn when and how to inspect, clean, disinfect, test and maintain TMVs to achieve safe operation. Learn how to identify high risk dead legs in pipework and what to do to eliminate the risk. Learn how to take Llegionella water samples for analysis in a laboratory. Learn about the test procedure, accuracy, how long it takes and how to interpret the final test results. Learn how to use dip slides to monitor cooling tower waters in accordance with the HSE’s ACOP L8 and HSG274 Part 1 covering evaporative cooling towers. Learn how to test water using a dip slide, how to incubate the slides, measure bacteria growth, understand action levels and how to safely dispose of used slides. Learn how to perform basic water analysis and testing, and how to interpret the results so as to monitor, control and manage the consequences of scale, corrosion, bio-fouling and suspended solids. The course lasts between 1/2 day to one full day depending on the number of practical modules required.
